Community Outreach Specialist

Position:           Community Outreach Specialist
Supervisor:       OCDEAF Regional Director
Location:          Cypress, CA
Classification:   Non-exempt, 100% FTE, possibility of position ending on June 30th 2026

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of OCDEAF Regional Director, the Community Outreach Specialist:

  1. Educates individuals or communities to receive Home Visitor services and resources to address the community’s needs and reduce social isolation.
  2. Coordinates one Resource Fair with our collaboration group with the goal of gaining awareness and referrals to the program
  3. Contacts companies and organizations to promote Home Visitor program and OCDEAF
  4. Assists with editing and captioning vlogs
  5. Provides presentations to deaf community, events and any others requests.
  6. Extensive fieldwork and ability to travel within agency service area is required.
  7. Performs such tasks and responsibilities as may be delegated.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree and 2 years Outreach experience
  2. Fluency in American Sign Language is required.
  3. Have experience and be well versed in public presentations.
  4. Must have the ability to work with deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind persons of diverse multi-ethnic populations and with widely varying communication skills and language levels.
  5. Knowledge of laws governing the rights of deaf and hard of hearing individuals is desirable.
  6. Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills, detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  7. Take initiative and thrive in handling multiple tasks with competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  8. Must maintain the highest level of confidentiality. Demonstrated ability to perform professionally. Punctuality and reliability are a must.
  9. Should exhibit excellent interpersonal skills and maintain a cooperative relationship with employees, supervisors, consumers, state and local governments and community members.
  10. As business needs require, employee’s schedule may be adjusted to allow for coverage at Deaf Expos and other deaf outreach events that occur on weekends.
  11. Must maintain a valid California Driver’s License and current auto insurance.

About GLAD:
The Greater Los Angeles Agency on Deafness is a private non-profit organization that was founded in 1969 and now has 13 locations serving 10 counties in Southern California. 

Our goal is to protect the civil rights, and ensure equal access for the deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, and deaf disabled communities in particular areas of California, including the counties of Los Angeles, Orange, Kern, Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Bernardino, Riverside, Mono, Inyo and San Luis Obispo, to all of life’s opportunities.

Salary Range – $28.50-$29/hour ($59,280-$60,320 annually)
