As far as talented basketball player Ralph Fuechtmann was
concerned, being twice cut from the Gallaudet basketball
team in the early 1960’s was not the end of the world.
He became Gallaudet’s best intramural basketball player.
And after graduating he played for the Minnepaul Deaf
Club that twice won the national deaf basketball tournament.
Additionally he twice was selected to the USA Deaflympics
basketball team.
And in 1987 he was inducted into the American Athletic
Association of the Deaf hall of fame.
One of his Minnepaul teammates played Gallaudet
basketball for three seasons but could not make
it with the Deaflympics and was never inducted into
the hall of fame!
