legislative insider’s advice on getting deaf bills passed
Writing letters? Sending emails? Making telephone
calls? Getting our act together to prioritize
what we want in the deaf bill? Do all of them
work with the legislators?
A legislative insider said these are not the best
ways.
The best way is to personally invite the legislator
to see for himself why we want the bill passed.
Examples are visiting a deaf school, visiting
a deaf agency, etc.
Maybe seat the legislator in a banquet table
surrounded by deaf advocates and interpreters.
If the legislator is impressed and interested,
he will tell his staff to make the deaf bill a
priority.
